PC problems since i installed Crysis 2
PC problems since i installed Crysis 2
I've been getting alot of the dreaded blue screens just lately, and it's always when in the middle of playing a game in crysis 2.
So i'll be in stealth mode just about to snap some noobs neck ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ) when with no warning, my computer will crash to a blue screen. The blue screen only stays up for about half a second and my monitor goes into standby. (computer is still running at this point, just no picture.)
I turn off my computer, holding in the button for a few seconds. I wait a minute, and turn it back on. There's is no beep sound and my monitor stays in standby mode but harddrive is spinning and all fans are on. I turn it off, wait 10 minutes and try again. Same result, just a blinking light on my monitor.
I wait a couple hours, turn my computer on and i'm releaved to hear the beep sound and my monitor comes out of standby mode and everything is working again.
In the last 24 hours it has crashed a couple times from the windows desktop aswell.
Surely i haven't fried my video card just by playing a damn game. This would be the second card in a row that has lasted less than 6 months.
Any ideas what the problem could be?

What temp is your system running at when you play c2 ? Is the error named on the blue screen ?

Re: PC problems since i installed Crysis 2
It gets pretty hot but no hotter than when i play other games. It's significantly worse now though, i can't play anything for longer than 5 mins before i get the bluescreen, even d3 does it.
It's done it about 5 times since i wrote that post.
The bluescreen only flashes on for half a second before it goes black, so its nearly impossible to read it. The only part i have been able to make out since making the first post is:
IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS
I've done some googling but different people say different things. I've not seen any posts about this exact problem though where the monitor goes into standy. My PC is definately deteriorating though, so it looks like i'm gonna be out of action for a while. Fortunately I still have a laptop to browse the forums with.

First I would suggest to install the latest drivers for all your hardware.

Re: PC problems since i installed Crysis 2
This is really strange.
I just managed get through a system restore and I restored it to the 20th March, before i installed crysis 2. I've started up a few games like fear, d3 and mafia2 and played about 5 or 10 minutes on each with no problems. So far everything seems stable again. Obviously this leads me to beleive that the problem was directly caused by crysis 2.
What i find really strange though is that i played 3 or 4 days on C2 with no problems at all, then from the moment i had the first blue screen, my PC became more and more unstable until tonight when it got to the point where it was almost unusable for anything. Call me paranoid, but all this trouble began when the hackers started invading the servers.
Anyway, the good thing is it looks like the problem is solved (fingers crossed)
The bad thing is i bought crysis 2 on steam and it was deleted during the system restore process, so i have to download all 10gb of it again.
This leaves me in a predicament, do i download crysis 2 again or not? I paid £29.99 for it so at this point it seems like a complete waste of money if all it's going to do is f*ck up my PC.
I'll probably wait until the next major patch is released before i play it again. I'm done buying big games from steam aswell, i'd rather have the disk there when i need it.

I have had the same problem, but I had a problem with cooling, and now I'm a proud owner of AMD Phenom II x6

i noticed that c2 players with steam have more issues than the players with the DVD.dru1d wrote:The bad thing is i bought crysis 2 on steam and it was deleted during the system restore process,

Iam also done with Steam, i will only use it in case i really need it.
Fortunately i buyed Crysis 2 on DVD.
However, if your system get very hot during gaming. You should get a 120mm CPU cooler to be sure the temperature is not the perpetrator.

Thanks, i'll update all my drivers and try installing it again and see how it goes. I keep thinking it's an over heating problem but i don't understand why it worked fine for a few days. Hopefully it's just some error in the software side of it which an update might sort out. Time will tell.
